Hey Randy, and staff. Are the 1979 xr500 hondas legal in your races. They will be legal in Stockton. Thanks Frank 57x

At Oberlin we will run the same classes as at Stockton, so the XR500's will be legal there. At the rest of the races on the schedule, Jeeps, Great Bend, and Odessa, Mo. they will not be legal.
This is something we may take a look at over the winter, give us your input.

why are the xr,s not legal for these races?i don,t understand why these bikes would be turned away when its about growing the sport.i had a yamaha with 43mm forks and was turned away hell everything else was arhma legal and was still told not to show up that i would not be allowed to race with the nftra,it was a one time deal that i wanted to try hellto make that change it would have cost me somewhere around 8-900.00. no i did not buy new clamps and forks.

Our rules state that "Vintage" is 1975 or OLDER, therefore the 79 XR's do not qualify, period. Where are you located? IF we could generate enough interest (5 bikes MINIMUM, on a REGULAR BASIS) we would look into creating a class for them. Thanks for your interest!

The TT and SR do, however, have the same engine design as the 75 models and are therefore allowed in our series. Some rules are necessary, I'm sorry they are not to your liking. Our intention is to keep things competitive. Maybe your intention is to just come in with a superior motor and cherrypick. Last year and earlier this summer the (former) NFTRA ran an unlimited air cooled singles class which was great for Rotax's and the RS and XR Hondas. Did you come and participate in that class? This should be a GREAT class and we would LOVE to have a similar class IF THE INTEREST IS THERE. There are plenty of these bikes out there to make it happen. Yet, I think the most that ever ran that class was 7 in one race (last season-the class only ran once this season with 3 bikes). Like I stated, we would be glad to make a place for you to race and be competitive if the interest is there.
Also, at Stockton the XR's were legal. However, I don't remember registering you to race either day?

I can't blame you there, the atmosphere in the pits is great, and our racing family is the ABSOLUTE BEST! We are hoping to run 6-8 weekends of 2 days of racing each (12-16 races total) most likely within the Ks., Mo., Ne. area. How many of those weekends do you think you would make? (schedule allowing of course)

How about taking a look at the xr500 as a 500. Must be 500cc and must use 38mm round slide carb. No 600 or Big Flat slides etc. We do need more bikes and riders, however we don't want to hurt the ones we have. Stockton had 7 or 8 Hondas as well as Davenport. Fewer classes and more riders will help any good show. Stockton next year will run 8 classes. Thanks, Frank 57x

Vintage flat track needs fewer classes to keep the show moving and the fans entertained, but it also needs classes that are reasonably competitive. If a 350cc Honda can be bored and stroked and compete with a 600cc Yamaha, a Honda 500 with a little work will blow them away. If the Hondas were kept to 500cc would this keep things reasonably competitive? I’ve been told Hondas 500s can be bored and stroked to 640cc. How is the restriction to be enforced? Will I have to protest every Honda that finishes in front of me? Will I be subjected to the potential embarrassment of discovering that they are just 500cc and I’m slow? Mortifying! We need a place for the Hondas to compete, but not with the easy to obtain and maintain Yamaha 500s. My opinion. Brigitta #20m I would like to encourage other Yamaha racers to speak up and voice your opinion. Allowing the Honda 500 to compete with the Yamaha is the direction that several organizations are headed (hopefully not this one). I like my Yamaha, I have nothing against the Hondas, my street bike is the same platform, I just don’t want to start all over.

Brigitta makes a great point. After the last few posts, I came up with an idea. Just run 'em in the 375 class...... Our class' bike count will go up, and it will be just as fair as running against the "big inch" XL's. When the big XL 350's show up, (not just the Great Plains races but all others) they waste us regulars that work all winter to get every ounce (of power and weight) out of a legal engine. Painfully obvious in the Davenport 250/350 class....
This causes other parts of the gray matter to sizzle.....
I plan to start to campaign a TT/XT based bike next year (as well as the Bul-Fighter). I would like to know if the Hondas will be allowed to run with the Yamahas. If so, I'll get a Honda. It's a no-brainer. Just my opinion. I can't afford 2 cents, so this is just 1 cent worth of jibberish.

Couldn't they just run in a vintage open class, or modern open class for that matter? Just an idea...
