Throw some kids' classes in there and you'd have a show, Frank.
I've been around Josh, just seems like the races I could attend were the ones that you missed lately (and vice versa). I missed some races after the Jeeps pile-up too. Been meaning to get ahold of you about maybe making a trip up there soon... but I'm also looking at a new race bike. Unfortunately it would require me to sell the Trackmaster and a few others. I'll shoot you an email or give you a call later.

Frank, That idea looks good from where I’m sitting! Question: (nobody laugh at me) What is the rationale behind restricting the Hondas to a 38mm round slide carb? Is it because if work were done on it, it wouldn’t get enough fuel/air, or is it because even if only 500cc with a flat slide it would be faster than the Twins? #20m

The 79 xr500 cannot run vintage open according to our rules which are 1975 design engines and older. If you say a 79 should be legal, before long someone will want the rfvc honda to be legal the next will be rs600, where does it stop. If there are that many out there wanting to race, an open air cooled class as Cherrypicker proposed could be run. I think TT Yamahas , 350 hondas and BSA's or anything meeting the 75 or older rule put on a good show. If it aint broke dont fix it. Just my 2 cents worth

When Dad and I decided to sell our XR500 that we were running in Pro-Am events and get into Vintage racing. VDTRA was the major organization. Talking with them the only TT500's that would be allowed had a set SN# cut off. We looked for a motor with the right #'s. Basically it is a 76 model produced in 75. Since then they have allowed the other years of TT500 to be legal to help the bike count. Last year at the first Davenport race a XR Honda won the open vintage race. Out ran the XR 750's, XS 750's and 2 valve Yamaha's. Even coming from the a row start.

This is enough reason to keep the actual vintage classes as 2-valve per cylinder engines only. There would be no way to police the 4-valve per cylinder XR's to keep them legal with any restrictions that have been suggested. If 4-valve engines are allowed to run, they should be in a class of their own or in some open class. Let's keep vintage as it is. This is my humble opinion.......... Joe Raine

If you really want to race, this is a great organization! Don’t get to frustrated by all the “rules”. Most of us are just hagin’ with our friends and having fun, BUT this IS NOT the same thing as just foolin’ around on a Sunday afternoon at a track dug out in your back yard. The rules are set up so that most riders/bikes have a place to race that is competitive and inexpensive (relatively). Any discussion is for the purpose of keeping it this way or making it better. I’m not sure by your posts what kind(s) of bikes you have, but it seems you have a Yamaha TT or a Honda XR. Try posting something like, “I have a Yamaha TT 1978, stock frame, forks and wheels- is there a class I can race this in?" Somebody who can interpret the rules correctly will give you an answer. If they tell you to make certain changes to the bike, (like you mentioned having 43mm forks on one), don’t give up! Somebody may be able to give you ideas on less expensive alternatives. Good luck! Come Race! BTW: This brings up another question but I’ll ask it in another post - later. #20m

Good post Brigetta, as far as forks go we have no fork rule. However we would frown on inverted forks. Thanks a lot for your input.

Here is a direct quote from former racing organizations rule book:
"A. Motorcycles manufactured 1975 or earlier (and all 500 Yamaha 4 stroke singles) are eligible. Two valves per cylinder maximum (350 Honda side and center ports and Westlake/Norish Triumph allowed), one carburetor per cylinder normally aspirated."
I believe this organization has used this as a basis for the rules they have put into place.
Just thought I would chime in from the Caribbean while dodging hurricanes. Hope everyone is well from the season.
