Just lettin you all follow along, we finally got our electronics back after spending near 3 weeks in the Mojave Desert doing some training for the deployment. My mortar platoon did awesome scuffing up the new array of targets the training site just emplaced. We fired during a couple different coordinated attack missions, tossing out over 200 rounds of 120mm rounds in under an hour at each mission. We head back to Camp Shelby MS the middle of the week and will be flying over withen the next month. Stay warm, I hear its getting cold up that way. -Tj

TJ, Sounds like you are having some fun in the sun down there. I miss the desert! A few cold nights up here, light frost, but its been nice fall-like weather otherwise.
Good luck, be careful, and keep us updated when you can.

We finally made it to Afghanistan, we are sitting around in transient tents awaiting flights out to our sites that we will live at for the next 9 months or so. This airfield has doubled in size since I was here in 2005. Now they have a bus shuttle. Before we had to walk the 2 miles around the runway to get to all of the shops and dining facilities. The most excitement we have had so far is a rocket attack. We are a ways from the runway and they shot 3-6 (depending on who you ask) 107mm chinese rockets at the runway. Injured 3 guys nothing serious. One of the new Lieutentants was in a freenzy, he woke up one of the SSG's and asked nervously what he should do. The SSG rolled over and said,"let me get back to sleep, and you should do the same, they are too far away to worry about just yet" Gotta love those old hard ass soldiers. Have fun at the Indoor races, will keep everyone updated the best I can as we go.

Well its finally getting cold here. We are all settled in to our new homes for the next 8 months. Have got to travel to a few different places and see some sweet mountains. There are spuratic indirect fire attacks, but nothing is ever that accurate. Small arms attacks against heavily armored trucks is pretty ineffective as well. Our Route Clearance teams are awesome at finding the IEDs (roadside bombs) and so far nobody has had to deal with those.

Hey TJ... Great to hear from you! I didn't know it got cold over there. Been pretty cold here, lows in the teens... snow on Saturday they say. Those desert mountains always remind me of home back in AZ, range and basin country!
Glad to hear your are getting by ok. Stay safe and take care,
Kyle
PS - Josh bought a sweet new plane... so just holler if you need any supplies dropped in. (But seriously, if you need anything shoot me an email with your mailing address!)
