But what a great weekend it was.
First of all I want to say a great big THANK YOU to everyone for sticking it out in the heat with us this weekend. I hope everyone survived ok. There were several people who did a lot of behind the scenes work to make it a great weekend and I would like to recognize them. I will probably miss at least one person (for those of you who dont know, I was a little sleep deprived this weekend ) and if I do I apologize. We do appreciate the "whatever it takes" spirit that our GPFTS family has at the track. I would like to individually recognize few people:
Aaron Lindfors-came down from Salina on 2 seperate (non race) days and helped with the TT track. He layed it all out and built the jump so it was not too rough on those ol' vintage bikes. Then he also ended up basically sponsoring a guest rider for the weekend with a bike, boots, and gear. They didn't know each other much before this weekend, but I think it is the beginning of a long friendship between two great people.
Mike Kurtz-Man every time I turned around almost Mike Kurtz was out at Jeeps doing whatever needed to be done. And before he did it he probably had to fix something in order to be able TO do it. Mike & Chance also worked the track Friday night while all of you were playing at 81 Speedway.
Brandon Hancock & Ray Hoch-As always these two are dedicated to Jeeps and flattrack racing with late nights working on the track and/or equipment so that everyone can come out to race & have a good time. I hear Ray also makes late night trips to the gate to rescue fans that got locked in. Thanks for that Ray.
Dan Clarke-came out to lend a hand in track layout. I also caught Dan and Mike on trash duty Sunday morning. That is not the most glamorous job (especially in July) but it is necessary and I appreciate you guys jumping in there and doing it.
Elysia Bell-Sat with Lynzee & I Saturday night and got a quick tutorial on our new Trackside computer program. She has offered time & again to help out whenever and wherever needed and we will be taking her up on it soon.
Jarod Carlisle-Pretty much did anything we asked him to do. Whoever helped him with the haybales Sunday (I don't know who that ended up being) THANK YOU. And as hot as it is for you guys racing, it's not much better to stand out there and hold a flag for 3-4 hours to make a safe race track for you guys. Thanks for flagging a couple of this weekends races Jarod.
Jeremy DeRuyter-I was tickled he took the time to come up from Tulsa and spend the weekend with our humble little series. I hope you all got the chance to meet him, he is a super guy. Here is what he had to say about his experience:
"I thought the club (Jeeps) did a great job with the track and how you guys ran everything. Everyone was awesome to me and treated me like a king. It was cool!"
I told him he has now had "the orange shirt crew" experience. LOL
And last but not least, TJ Smiley. First of all he is just an all around good guy, despite his choice in traveling companions. He offered to bring the small helmet that DeRuyter needed for the weekend, no questions asked. Somebody needed it & TJ was happy to loan it. I am not terribly fond of doing the National Anthem, but I was honored to sing it as you and Maryanna held our flags. Thank you for your service to our country. I look forward to lining up #98 again in just one short year!
Like I said I am sure I probably forgot someone, and I am sorry if I did. It's not because your efforts aren't appreciated, I assure you that.
Now I'm now off to take a nap. You guys wore me out this weekend!
