About a week ago Mike Kidd announced that at Gas City, IN AMA Pro Short Track Grand National on June 5th, there is going to be a special support class of Vintage Bultaco Astros. I was offered a ride and am now on the list of participants. I have never ridden a Bultaco in my life, and Bill Snyder kindly offered to let me ride one of his at Jeeps Motorcycle Club this past weekend. Those who witnessed my Bultaco debut know it wasn't a pretty sight, I couldn't even keep the bike running.
I came back home with every intention of withdrawing from the race and leaving a spot for a rider with experience on the Bultacos, however, apparently my presence is desirable even if I can't get the bike off the line, so I will be going to the race and doing my best.
Mike Kidd originally said that he was limiting entries to twelve riders, but it is my understanding that even though it has not been announced, he will actually accept up to eighteen.
Bill Snyder gave me permission to post and share this information. He would like to race that race, but financial restraints are keeping him from doing it. He would bring his RV to sleep in, so about $500.00 in gas money would get him to the race and back home.
Unfortunately, I am going to be a very poor representative of Great Plains Flattrack Series in this national event that is getting attention from all over the world. I would love to see Bill Snyder representing vintage racers from the heartland, waving to the crowd and the world press on his victory lap after the race.
If twenty five GPFTS racers each contribute twenty dollars we could help get Bill there.
Time is limited and I am not the best organizer, but if you are able to contribute to this worthy cause, you can contact me and we can go from there. Edit: I just spoke to Bill again. We are so short on time, the best way we can figure to do this is to ask people to send a check to his business address. He told me that if he is not able to raise enough money in time he will return what he has received. Thanks again for the help!

Hey guys,
I went upstairs to eat dinner and came back down and the two of you had already replied! Thanks.
I have never done this before so I just called Bill trying to figure out how we can handle the money so that everyone feels comfortable and so that if we don't get enough everyone gets it back. He does need the cash in hand before he can go or even contact Mike.
I will research PayPal and see about setting that up. Bill doesn't even have a computer so I would have to collect the money and wire transfer it to him. I will post further information here as soon as I possibly can. Thanks again, Bill really sounded excited when I called and told him two people already said they would help.

He has helped me out many times... Count me in for $50! I'm with KK, Bill NEEDS to be there... Kyle#44x edit - I had to transfer some $$ from my paypal account to my bank and it will take 3-4 days (my refund from my new race bike purchase that never happened ). I'll mail him a check in a couple days.

Another 100 going in the mail today.
At my count that makes $430.
I know some of you are shy when it comes to tooting your own horn, but it is helpful if you at least make a post that you are helping out in some way. That way we ALL know we are getting closer to our goal.
Keep sharing if you are able! I think it would be nice if Bill could EAT while he is there representing the GPFTS and of course the best riders around!

I am also pretty sure the figure he told me (last weekend) he would need to make it to the race was higher than 500

Not sure it will happen but maybe if the stars all line up Johnny will send the funds that Trish sends to him (new tires for my birthday) probably just shy of $300. Partly why we didn't stay for Sunday.... need new tires, otherwise I'm just throwing money away for hotels, pit fees, gas, race entries etc. Good luck Bill
