The VDTRA event at the Du Quoin mile was fun. Friday evening it rained and it sprinkled Saturday morning. Sign in was at 7:00 a.m. Saturday and practice was scheduled for 9:00 a.m. The track was wet and they didn’t want to start working it. Ken Salient and his boss were determined that the VDTRA would run if at all possible. The wind picked up a little and the sun poked out. Finally, at 1:00 we followed Scott Sherb around the track for a couple of parade laps and then practice started. Lots of riders showed up, most of the classes had at least six. Once again, I was very disappointed and rather embarrassed, I did not get to race. I did another flipper off the start line. Must have been overly anxious and dropped the clutch. Duquoin has lots of traction. Anyway, I got four laps of practice and was loving it. I saw friends I hadn’t seen for a while and I got to watch most of them finish well in their races. That made the experience worth while. The race between Cory and Mike was close and exciting. Wendy #72 won her class at the line after coming from a quarter of a mile back and passing two riders; Go Girl! There is nothing like the MILE!

I was just curious about all the DNS and DNF's. Was the mile that hard on the old motors or were there other reasons? Just curious, Scott

Hey Brigetta! Thanks for the big smile and the congratulations when I came off the track!! It meant a lot to me. :-) Bummer about the looper on the start line - wish you could have had more track time...you're right, the traction was amazing on Saturday and you could ride just about anywhere. The cloudy day made everyone kind of nervous about a rain-out, but kept the track tacky and fast all afternoon. What an amazing Mile it was this year!

I was just curious about all the DNS and DNF's. Was the mile that hard on the old motors or were there other reasons? Just curious, Scott Hey Scott! I’m not sure why there were so many DNS. The VDTRA event started four hours late. There was a practice scheduled for the riders in the Grand Championships when we finished and the weather was teasing us. Once the track was in shape everything moved quickly, there were no breaks between practice, heats and the race. I simply ran out of time to make repairs on my bike-five or ten more minutes-I just ran out of time. Chris (Jake) had a clutch-slipping problem and his speedy repair wasn’t the answer. Perhaps this is the reason for other DNS, just the normal unexpected problems and not enough time to repair them. #20m
