The motorcycle and midget car event at Eagle Raceway next Sunday July 27th is promising to be an exciting event. Many of the nation’s best vintage and pro-sport racers plan to attend. Tom Laird has worked with Eagle Raceway owner Roger Hayden to make this day exciting for motorcycle racers. With that in mind they asked Randy Koster to flag the motorcycles at this event. I am pleased to announce that Randy has accepted. ;D Come join in the fun at Eagle Raceway! Check out www.eagleraceway.com for track information and local accommodations. #20m

Hey Brigitta,
I was just wondering how the track at Eagle compared to Odessa this weekend.Just thinking about gearing and such.Hope we have a clear forcast.I,m completely gunshy about going anywhere after the weather we've had this summer. So far it looks pretty good.I'm definately looking forward to it.Thanks.

Mark, Your question had me laughing. Remember when we were at Du Quoin, I mentioned floating my valves and Johnny Isaac suggested I wasn’t the one to give gearing advice? For what its worth.... Eagle Raceway is considerably faster than Odessa. Start with between 4 and 6 teeth less - 5 teeth less would be a good number. This track has lots of banking through the corners and is very wide from top to bottom. If a rider races on the flat part at the bottom (we did NOT want to the day we ran with the stock cars) their gearing will be different – not sure how much. I’ve only had about nine laps on this track so can’t be sure, but this should be a good starting place. Gear to go FAST! Everybody keep thinking good thoughts about the weather! #20m

For those of you without Yamaha TT500s: Eagle is a fast 1/3 mile up on the banking. Start somewhere between a fast 1/4 and an average 3/8 with gearing.
I wish I could be more help, but I haven't ridden any other tracks to compare this one too. The straights are long enough that I was sliding back for just a moment. The corners would look paper clippy, but the banking is so high I had no problem carrying speed through them.
It's a fun track, the banking kind of grabs you and sweeps you around. Hopefully, with just the Midgets it will be even more fun.

I would refer to Eagle as such: If you took everything you didn't like about 81 Speedway and fixed it, you'd have Eagle Raceway. No offense to the fine folks at 81, I loved racing there, I seemed to have good luck there. The track is very similar in size and is banked higher. It's also similar to McCool Junction.
With just midgets running with us we should have a smooth racey track. I personally plan to start with 3/8 gearing and work from there. I also plan to enjoy the 20 minute drive back home after the races. (got home at 5:00 AM Sunday after Odessa)
Looking forward to it..... Any more questions let one of us know and we'll get them answered.

Josh is right! I raced Eagle in 3rd gear and I usually race Wichita and McCool in 4th. Guess I shouldn’t try to do math late at night. Don’t say I didn’t warn you! I’m going to start with gearing similar to what I use at 81 and adjust from there. (6 teeth less than Odessa - it DOES all add up!) Clear as Mud? Let me know if there is anything else I can help with! LOL #20m

Thanks guys for the good information.I ended up running about my usual gearing for a 3/8 mile at Odessa but ran in 3rd gear instead of 4th.After what you both said,I think i'll leave it alone and see if it will be close in 4th.So many variables to deal with like track conditions, temperature, and fear factor ,You cant really tell till you get on the track.Sure looking forward to it.Thanks again. Hey Mark,
There actually is a method to my madness. On those Yamaha 500s there is a 1719 RPM difference from 3rd to 4th gear. There is about 200 RPM difference for every tooth you change on the rear. So, you would add about 8.5 teeth on the back if you wanted the same RPMs in fourth gear that you had in 3rd. I ran in third gear at Odessa with gearing that I would have used on a average 3/8 mile in 4th. I run gearing at 81 Speedway that is about two teeth more or two teeth lower. So if I wanted to ride in 3rd gear at Eagle, I would take about 6 off of what I had on at Odessa. If I wanted to ride in fourth I could keep it the same or add about 2 teeth and have the same gearing I use at 81 Speedway.
Long and short of it, you should be okay.
I feel much better now that I've explained myself. Thank you for your time.
