For those of you who do not know, #11 Chris Egbert, a vintage rider, was involved in a bad get off at LA Raceway Saturday May 14th. He high sided in turn 3 of the first lap of the Vintage Open Main. I was at the race but did not actually see the crash. I do know that the race was stopped for over an hour while the tended to him and got him transported to the hospital. Last report I got about 5:00 today was that he was doing a little better. He is still in a hospital in Missouri. Broken ribs on the right side, his knee is all busted up, and a punctured lung. But the swelling of the lungs which was putting excessive pressure on his heart is subsiding so as long as that continues they will not to have to go in via surgery to relieve that pressure. This is very good news. I understand he also has a pretty good goose egg on his forehead, thank goodness he had a brand new Arai on. And they have not explored the extent of the knee injuries at this time. His sister Nancy, girfriend Gloria and several other family members were present. They are hoping to be able to go get him in the next day or two and bring him home. Please keep Chris in your thoughts.

Hey Chris,we'll be praying for a speedy recovery. From the looks of your scooter it must of been a hairy crash. You and Jody will have to compare notes when you get to feeling better. My brother was video taping so I'll see if he caught it.Hope your better real soon and back on the bikes.

Thanks for the note Tammy and sorry to hear about Chris. I enjoyed racing with him in my class. Lets hope they get the pain under control and he starts to heal soon.
What the heck is it about turn 3 at LaMonte??
I fought with myself Friday night and Sat morning about going. I always look forward to this race since it's the only semi-close event to us. Knowing how cold Trish gets, even when it's not really cold out.... and remembering how chilly we both got at Jeeps last time, I decided against it. After breaking my eye glasses last week and getting a whole new scrip and frame Friday morning... I'm still getting used to them so it's probably better I did go and there's no way I could of gone and just watched.
Anyone have results and rider turnout? Any other GPFTS riders? Mark, don't tell me you got 4th this year !

UPDATE: Chris had to have a tube put in his chest to drain air and blood. He is still under and the nurse will call me when he wakes up.

Rider counts were as follows:
singles-15 vintage-25 modern pro twins-12
I have talked to Chris' sister Nancy a couple of times today. Not sure when he will be released, but he is holding steady. I am also happy to report that Rick Yeager (race promoter) has been up to visit Chris. Rick is a great guy and I appreciate his concern for one of "our own."
Mark I am excited to hear that there is the possibility of video, several people have asked me whether I knew of any. Keep us posted on that!

Well, I'm sorry to say it sounds like little brother did not get the crash on his video.I have not seen it yet but he said he was shooting the front of the pack coming out of turn 4 when the crash happened going into 3.Chad Beckley was riding my bike and he said Chris hit him going into the turn and stood him straight up. He said he thought he was going down but luckily, saved it.Gerald Chism and Pat Griffith both said they went off the back side to miss him.I went out and looked at my scooter this afternoon and looks like he hit Chad right in front of the shock mount. There is fresh rubber from the shock to the axle and on the bent chain adjuster. Looks like he hit pretty hard. I sure hope Chris will be improving soon and hope everyone out there is praying for him.Sounds like he's pretty banged up.
Dan, I should of finished up there around forth but I pulled a stupid move and caught my foot coming out of 2.Rolled it under the footpeg a bit and that old ankle reminded me about last years fun.Started dropping like a stone after that.Went from about third or fourth all the way back to eighth. Was pretty discusted with myself afterwards.I guess I dont have the John Wayne fortitude like my buddy Jody.He rode all night and finished right behind me with broken ribs and shoulder.Had something to prove to himself I guess.
Hope someone will let Chris know we're thinking of him and sending him best wishes.
Mark

Chris is doing better today and his lung is about 90% full again. They took him off the vacuum that was sucking the air and blood out of his chest then put it back in after noticing some more air pockets, if all goes well he will be done with it tomorrow. The doc says he will be in there about four more days (hopefully).
